Fortress or Prison?

What is stopping me?
What is holding me back?
Is it even mine or is it someone else's problem altogether?
I feel as though it is not mine to deal with and yet how could it be another's?
For it is not one point of resistance, directed at me from one source,
but I see a blockade everywhere I turn.
No, It must be mine and mine alone to defeat.
And yet, how can I?
I try my most cunning plan and it is in vain.
Is this a wall I have built to guard myself?
Or is it a cage someone else has put me in?
If given, then was it given to me for my good or to confine me?
Is it of my hand or from another?
Or is it merely there, unchangeable?
Is it to be defeated at all,
Or is it there to keep safe the things I value most?
Perhaps I shall never know from whence it came or for what purpose.
I only wish I knew what to do with it now.

warning: Don't worry, I'm not going through some major struggle or anything. Although, it would be a lie to say it isn't at all inspired by real life. Take it for what you will.
This is a really funny video! Unfortunately, this will probably happen to me some day.... ;)

The True Knowledge

Thou knowest all; I seek in vain
What lands to till or sow with seed -
The land is black with briar and weed,
Nor cares for falling tears or rain.
Thou knowest all; I sit and wait
With blinded eyes and hands that fail,
Till the last lifting of the veil
And the first opening of the gate.
Thou knowest all; I cannot see.
I trust I shall not live in vain,
I know that we shall meet again
In some divine eternity.

The Letter

I wrote you a letter
Things could be better
Full of promises, every hope and dream
Did you get it
Have you read it
Talks about you and me
And the future, you see
Something no one can do
Is take the place of you
Can't you see you’re....one of a kind

CHILD, YOU'RE LIKE A STAR
SET APART
SET APART FROM THE START OF THE WORLD
THIS IS YOUR TIME
RISE AND SHINE
CHILD, YOU’RE ONE OF A KIND

Sometimes every thing’s too much
Like the deepest cut
You hurt to be touched
When you hear it
If you feel it
Don't let it have its way
I'm writing to say
Something no one can do
Is take the place of you
Oh can't you see you’re...one of a kind

CHILD, YOU'RE LIKE A STAR
SET APART
FROM THE START OF THE WORLD
THIS IS YOUR TIME
RISE AND SHINE
CHILD, YOU'RE ONE OF A KIND
I know it's hard to hear promises
When the blue has turned to grey
Nobody said it was easy
But I know you'll find your way

CHILD, YOU'RE LIKE A STAR
SET APART
FROM THE START OF THE WORLD
THIS IS YOUR TIME
RISE AND SHINE
CHILD YOU'RE ONE OF A KIND

"Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world."

Lewis and Clark

If they were alive, I'd marry one of them.
I'm reading excerpts from their journals and it's absolutely amazing. I love reading about them and what they did especially in their own words. It's so interesting to hear an account of their adventures from both of their view points. You can see so much of their personalities through their journals. I hope that someday when I'm 200 years gone, someone will find my journals interesting! Maybe it would help if I went on some 28 month excursion into the unknown. Anyway.. They were incredible and I find myself deeply engrossed in every detail of their journey. There is really something noble in what they did. In fact many things. I love reading about their relationships with each other, the other men in the party, the Indians, Sacajawea and everyone else they encountered. I've learned so much about the culture of the different Indian tribes of the time through their descriptions. They were explorers, anthropologists, adventurers, linguists, ambassadors, and many other things. Their men trusted them so deeply and they each other. They risked their lives for each other and fought together for a common goal. Although some will say they never even really accomplished what they set off to do, I find them heroic and worthy of admiration. I dream of doing something very similar with my life. Unfortunately the Western United States has been adequately explored so I shall have to find some other territory.
